The Medical Counseling Committee has released some significant news for candidates participating in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS) 2025 counseling. The committee has issued an official notice clarifying that candidates who were allotted seats in Round 1 of counseling can resign their seats without losing their security deposit.
Under normal rules, if a candidate leaves or resigns from their allotted seat, their security deposit is forfeited. However, this time, keeping in mind the interests of students and several special requests, MCC has decided to offer a one-time waiver.

What is the complete process and time limit?
According to a notification issued by the MCC, the resignation window has been opened under this special resolution. Eligible and interested candidates August 4, 2026 at 6:00 PM The committee has clarified that this deadline is very strict and no such exemption will be available after the deadline.
This feature could prove particularly beneficial for candidates who, due to their preferences or other reasons, wish to withdraw from their seats before the second round of counseling. Furthermore, various medical organizations and doctors’ bodies, such as FAIMA, have welcomed MCC’s move, which could provide mental and financial relief to superspecialty students in the upcoming process.

What things need to be taken special care of?
If any student wants to leave the seat of Round 1, then he/she may be required to follow some important and technical guidelines.
Only online process is valid
- MCC has clarified that resignations must only be made online through the official portal, mcc.nic.in. Any resignation letter issued offline or manually by any college will not be accepted and will be considered cancelled.
- Candidates will have to personally visit their allotted medical college and request the authorities there to generate the online resignation on the portal.After completion of the resignation process, students can get back all their original documents from the college.
- The MCC has also clarified in its guidelines that this special exemption has been given only for a one-time purpose considering the current circumstances and it should not be seen as a rule or precedent for future seasons or rounds.
Candidates who successfully resign their seats within this deadline will have their seats returned to the pool of vacant seats. These seats will then be made available for allotment to other eligible candidates in the upcoming Round 2 of NEET SS 2025 counseling.
Students who do not resign on time will remain in their current seats and will proceed to the next stages of counselling as per the rules. Candidates are advised to rely only on the official MCC website, mcc.nic.in, to avoid any confusion and to regularly check the portal for latest updates.
